The International Olympic Committee along with the National Olympic Committee and the Sports Ministry have agreed to review sports laws and regulations. They also agreed to hold NOC polls thereby postponing its election on December 27.

Part of the stadium that will host the 2014 World Cup opener in Brazil collapsed on Wednesday, killing at least two people and causing significant damage, authorities said, the latest setback plaguing what should be soccer's signature event. The part of a 500-ton metal structure cut through the outer walls of Sao Paulo's Itaquerao Stadium, destroying some of the seats on the east side of the venue and crashing into a massive LED panel that runs across the stadium's facade. FIFA has set a December deadline for all 12 World Cup venues to be ready.

World number one Magnus Carlsen became the second-youngest chess world champion in history on Friday, falling just short of the record set by his former coach Garry Kasparov in 1985. Carlsen claimed the title, and $1.53 million (1.13 million euros) in prize money, in a tense draw on Friday where reigning champion Anand needed to win. The 22-year-old from Norway never lost to Anand in the series, and won games five, six, and nine - including two impressive victories playing black. Originally scheduled to last 12 matches, the score of 6.5 to 3.5 after 10 games left no hope of a series turnaround for Anand. The final game lasted almost five hours, incorporating 65 moves, and finally finished in a draw when only the two kings remained on the board. This was because etiquette prevented Carlsen offering a draw to his opponent in the decisive contest, until it was apparent Anand did not have the pieces to win.

Celebrations for Algeria's victory over Burkina Faso that sent the country's soccer team to the 2014 World Cup finals left 12 people dead and some 240 injured. People poured into the streets of this soccer-mad country late Tuesday after the game and most of the deaths and injuries appear to be from road accidents as cars raced around honking their horns in celebration. It is the fourth trip to the World Cup for this soccer-mad nation and follows closely on its 2010 appearance in South Africa.

KTM factory motorcycle racer Kurt Caselli was killed last night as he was racing this year's running of the Baja 1000. It's not immediately clear what happned, but early reports are that he was killed when he hit some sort of man-made booby trap set by locals along the course.

Caselli, 30, was near the end of the race when he hit the obstacle around 5 PM PST yesterday. He was transported to the hospital with major head injuries but unfortunately succumbed to them during the night.

The "giraffe riddle" going around on Facebook is not a scam, in support of any cause, or a sign that your friend's computer has been hacked. It's the result of a viral social media game in which users change their Facebook profiles to pictures of giraffes if they've incorrectly answered a riddle. Users who get the answer wrong are asked to change their Facebook profile to a giraffe for three days, in the interest of confusing or intriguing the online community into playing the game. 

The first professional sumo wrestler from Africa or the Arab world continued his meteoric rise with his promotion Monday to the sport's elite division. The Japan Sumo Association raised 21-year-old Egyptian Abdelrahman Ahmed Shaalan, who goes by the ring name of "Osunaarashi" (Great Sandstorm), to the "makuuchi" division. The Egyptian made his debut in March last year and lost no more than two bouts in each of the following eight tournaments, which have seven matches in the lowest division. He has taken just 10 tournaments since his debut to join the top flight, the second fastest ascent after Japanese wrestler Jokoryu made the grade last year following just nine tournaments. Thirty-nine foreign-born wrestlers have reached the top division but Osunaarashi was the quickest to do so.

Cena returned Sunday night, and the first order of business for WWE's franchise performer was breathing life back into the world heavyweight title. Cena won the belt from Alberto Del Rio Sunday night at the Hell in a Cell match. 

A 33-year-old man from Columbia, Ga., and a 29-year-old woman from Manitou Springs, Colo., were the top runners in the 2013 Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C. More than 32,000 runners started the chilly day at the Arlington National Cemetery to run 26.2 miles through the Nation’s Capital. The runners concluded their race near the Iwo Jima Memorial. Girma Bedada, 33, finished first in the men’s group, In the female group, Kelly Calway  finished first in the women’s group.

Bud Adams, a pro football presence for more than half a century as a founder of the American Football League and the owner of the Houston Oilers and their successors, the Tennessee Titans, died on Monday at his home in Houston. He was 90. The A.F.L. began with two very rich Texans. Lamar Hunt, the Dallas-based son of the oil tycoon H. L. Hunt, conceived of a league that would compete with the established National Football League. Mr. Adams, a private man, was uncomfortable with public-relations gestures, and he could display a rough edge.

Jim Leyland, who led the Detroit Tigers to two pennants in eight seasons and got them to the verge of a third this season, will not return for a ninth. Leyland announced in a press conference Monday that he is stepping down as Detroit's manager. Leyland will be accepting another position with the club, which is yet to be determined. Detroit was Leyland's fourth and most successful stop in a managerial career that likely will conclude with his enshrinement in baseball's Hall of Fame. Leyland's departure creates a whopping five managerial openings: the Tigers, Washington Nationals, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds and Seattle Mariners.

Russian boxer Ruslan Provodnikov became the world champion of the WBO welterweight champion, having selected the coveted belt from American Mike Alvarado. The battle took place in Denver, USA. 29-year-old Russian boxer Ruslan Provodnikov managed to do something that has not been possible to Alexander Povetkin. Conductors became the world champion of the WBO welterweight champion, having won in Denver (Colorado, USA) 33-year-old American Mike Alvarado, who was the previous holder of this title. The first half of the fight Alvarado dominated by the rate of conductor and having a hard time. The turning point was the eighth round, when Ruslan managed to spend a few strong attacks and twice rearrange his opponent to the canvas. After that, it became clear that the Russians do not miss the victory. It also had to recognize and Mike Alvarado, who, after 10 rounds had to admit defeat early.

The sellout crowd reacted predictably when the visiting Denver Broncos team hit the field at Lucas Oil Stadium Sunday night, showering boos on the 6-0 team looking to vanquish their hometown Colts. But when Denver’s quarterback became visible, the boos switched to loud, emotional and uproarious cheers for the man who defined football in Indianapolis. Peyton Manning started to warm up on the field while a video tribute played on the stadium screens, showing many of the key plays Manning was involved in throughout his 14 seasons as the Colts’ quarterback. It was the perfect celebration for Manning in his first trip back to Lucas Oil since the end of the 2011 season.

Udo Lattek, 78, has been diagnosed with Parkinson's. He needs a wheelchair and a home nurse. His wife Hildegard has now told by the health of the legendary football coach. The former football coach Udo Lattek, 78, is seriously ill. His wife Hildegard told the "Bild" newspaper that he was suffering from Parkinson's disease. "If my Udo has lain a few days, he needs a wheelchair." Hildegard Lattek her husband had picked up on Sunday morning after a five-day hospital stay from the St. Elisabeth Hospital in Cologne and returned to their shared home. "My Udo stays with me." A home nurse they support it, to care for her husband. "There are days when Udo's state of mind is very unsteady." Udo Lattek had reportedly suffered a slight attack of weakness on Tuesday and was therefore admitted to the hospital. He has long been struggling with health problems. In 2001 and 2012 he was operated on the brain - was caused by a benign tumor. Three years ago he also suffered a stroke.

Timothy Bradley wins split decision over Juan Manuel Marquez

Timothy Bradley did just enough to win once again, beating Juan Manuel Marquez by split decision Saturday night to keep his piece of the welterweight title. Bradley thwarted Marquez's attempt to win his fifth world title by coming on in the second half of the fight to win. It was the third straight close decision win for Bradley, who was a hotly disputed winner over Manny Pacquiao two fights ago.

The pro-Marquez crowd booed loudly and Bradley egged them on afterward. He won 116-112 on one card and 115-113 on another, while a third judge had Marquez winning 115-113. Bradley rocked Marquez with a left hook in the final seconds of the final round, the biggest punch of the fight between the last two men to beat Pacquiao.

A 2-year-old boy who was reportedly the son of Minnesota Vikings star Adrian Peterson died Friday of injuries he suffered after allegedly being abused. Sioux Falls, South Dakota, police said Joseph Robert Patterson, 27, has been charged with aggravated battery of an infant and aggravated assault. If convicted on the charges, both felonies, Patterson could face up to 40 years in prison and an $80,000 fine. Prosecutors are considering filing additional charges against Patterson in light of the boy's death.

Authorities determined that the child had suffered injuries to his head consistent with abuse. The suspect -- who was given suspended sentences a year ago for simple domestic assault and violation of a domestic abuse bond. The 2012 NFL Most Valuable Player himself did not elaborate on what happened when addressing reporters earlier Friday, at which time the child was in critical condition. But he did acknowledge that he was dealing with "a private matter," adding that he still plans to play in Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers.

Legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar will retire from all forms of cricket after playing his 200th Test next month. The 40-year-old former India captain, who retired from one-day internationals in December 2012, will end his career with two matchesagainst West Indies. Tendulkar is the highest scorer in both Tests and ODIs, with 15,837 runs in 198 Tests and 18,426 runs in 463 ODIs. He made his international debut aged 16 in November 1989 and last year became the only batsman in the history of the game to reach 100 international centuries.

Tendulkar's final appearances will also take place in India and he said: "It's been a huge honour to have represented my country and played all over the world. I look forward to playing my 200th Test match on home soil, as I call it a day." The president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, N Srinivasan, said: "He is without doubt the greatest cricketer India has produced.
