Syrian fighter jets bomb rebel-held areas in north
Syrian activists say
government airstrikes have targeted rebel positions near a strategic northern
city. The Britain-based
Syrian Observatory says Syrian fighter jets twice hit opposition-held areas and
the airstrikes were followed by heavy clashes. The group says there were
casualties in the fighting but gave no specifics. The
city is strategic because it sits astride a major supply route linking the
capital, Damascus, with Syria's largest city and commercial hub, Aleppo, in the
north.
